represent Christ in
to unity with God and each other in Christ, as we pray,
worship, proclaim the Gospel and promote justice,
peace and love.
We share a common mission with Salem Lutheran Church, ELCA.
The Episcopal Church, as a member of the worldwide Anglican
Communion, bases its Christian theology on:
v Scripture – the primary source
v Tradition – the wisdom of ages past
v Reason – the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
History of St. Paul’s:
Two of the first Episcopalian
families arrived in this area from Pennsylvania in 1857 and settled near
Afton. The same year they established a
church and Sunday school.
St. Paul’s Episcopal church
was organized February 6, 1876 in the Egerton block on Pine Street and later in
the Patt block at the corner of Adams and Elm; still later at the Potter Post
Hall.
In 1892 the congregation
built a church at South Oak and Division Streets that was moved to the present
church site at Broad and Adams where later it was destroyed by fire.
The present church was
erected in 1928-29 and was consecrated on Sunday, January 26, 1936.
